Nexus

About the work

Nexus is a choreographic work exploring the transmission of locking across three generations.

On stage, Gemini Lockiano, one of the first figures to establish locking in France, Julia “Funky-J” Ortola, an internationally recognised artist in the form, and Icaps, a Gen Z dancer from Lycée Turgot, embody three relationships to knowledge: receiving, transforming and passing it on.

The work asks how a culture can remain alive without becoming fixed. How can we honour the figures who shaped it without confining its memory? How can we pass on knowledge without reproducing a hierarchy? How can the hip-hop circle become a space of equality between generations?

Nexus unfolds as a passing of the torch: an encounter between memory, the present and the future, where each generation learns as much as it shares.

The work extends the spirit of the hip-hop circle: a space where we receive, respond and are transformed through contact with others.

Why book Nexus?

Nexus is a short, accessible and powerful work, ideal for theatres, festivals, dance seasons, hip-hop programmes and arts education projects. It can be accompanied by locking workshops, danced lectures, an exhibition, artist talks or the teaching of choreographic excerpts.
